BABA BUDAN

Along East Market street in the Old Town of Edinburgh, you'll find the Arches. These Victorian arches have been completely overhauled as part of the £150 million New Waverley project transforming the old town. Along this street you can find all kinds of different little businesses, from shops, beauticians and cafes - including some bubble tea. I had a look at the bubble tea menu and decided it was all very confusing choosing so many things for one glass. So instead I kept wandering along to the end discovering Baba Budan.

Baba Budan is known as a sixteenth century Sufi, thought to have brought coffee to India. So can you guess what Baba Budan sells? It's a delightful coffee shop with the tag line Coffee. Tea. Donutterie.
The list of coffee that they sell is extensive and selling T2 tea along side, doesn't leave you with a lack of choice. Not only the drinks but lets get on to the favourite part for me personally which is the Donutterie portion of this cafe. All the donuts sold in the shop are homemade and have a different range of flavours than your normal jam, custard and apple. All of the donut flavours are sold on a rotational basis so you get to try a different one each time.
On this occasion my boyfriend tried the cornflake custard, which was a nice light treat. Personally I wanted a very much more out there flavour and so went with the violet and mango custard. The flavour instantly hits you when you bite in to it with a delicious tang from the mango. Although it is a donut and therefore instantly slightly heavy, the custard wasn't too sticky or sweet but rather a refreshing flavour.

If you are heading down the Arches (which I think you should, because they are pretty nice), then stop in for some lunch or just a coffee. They do sell food other than donuts from other businesses such as the Bearded Baker. Their bagels are delicious and can be toasted for you to make the cheese just perfect. I would also recommend the gelato that you can buy with your donut or on its own. Now I'm not a huge peanut butter fan, but I tried some of the gelato my boyfriend had and I kept asking him for more because it was just that good.

Go on then all you foodies out there.
