CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN - EDINBURGH CHRISTMAS MARKET (Five Days To Go!)

Now at this time of the year in Edinburgh, there comes the most amazing (and crowd filled) festivities of the Edinburgh Christmas Market. You get so many different areas with things you could just spend an absolute fortune on! (I know I have once or twice).

Star Flyer at Scott Monument

The first area of the market, found just outside the National Gallery in the Princes Street Gardens is the wonderful stalls full of food and crafts. One of my favourite things here is the Belgian hot chocolate you can buy which is absolutely divine. With three chocolate fountains for you to stand and gawk at, wishing you could just put your head underneath them, you're spoilt for choice. And to spoil you ever more if you're more of a fruit and marshmallow person, you can have that dipped under the fountain too. There's nothing better than watching someone put a cup underneath that chocolate fountain.
Another favourite that must be gone to every year is the German pretzels. At £3 a pretzel I would say that you definitely get your money's worth - they're massive. Who needs lunch when you can have a nice warm pretzel?

If you're more a sweet tooth, then you need to check out the Churro stand in the central are of the gardens beside the sweeties pic n mix. As a big Churro fan, I'm in love with this stall but what's better than their churros is their home made warm donuts with whipped cream. I normally have to share the portions with whoever I'm with, as five churros smothered in sugar and nutella or four donuts with the cream, is a bit much for little old me.
Another food stall I recommend is the Snowdonia Cheese Company. I love their Green Thunder cheese (garlic and herbs) but they have a massive range, with something for everyone. Or if you're more a fudge person, then head down the steps to one of the last stalls where you can get everything from salted caramel, to Irn Bru or Bailey's. I would recommend the millionaire shortcake fudge - it's to die for.

Apart from spending a fortune on the food and crafts you can find in the markets, you can head down to Santa Land to keep kids amused. With rides, Santa's grotto and other amusements it's the sweetest little place to wander. Or if you're looking for something a bit more your speed, then check out the big wheel, star flyer and yeti all beside the Scott Monument. And the best part for Edinburgh residents? 20% off all the rides and shows with proof of your address!

Of course there are other beautiful areas that you can check out beyond this one, with the Street of Light and Scottish Market over on George Street this year, it's a spectacle to behold. You have to have a ticket to get in to the area with the bands playing, but even just strolling down George Street, you can hardly miss the castle all lit up at night.
