Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be kidnapped and handcuffed to the wall, then told you have one hour to solve a number of puzzles or a bomb will blow you to pieces? (Sounds like a scene from Saw doesn't it?)
Hidden away on Queen Street in Edinburgh you can find Exit Plan - the escape rooms. I had never done one of the escape rooms before, but in the last few years there has been a massive surge in popularity for this experience. There are four different companies just within Edinburgh alone where you can find them.

Myself and four other friends experienced Svengali's Lair in Exit Plan where you have to discover so many clues to help you diffuse the bomb before it goes off. The experience of this was out of this world; it's such a great fun way to work together and become a team, use your brain and have a laugh. You really have to work as a team and figure things out in a way that allows you to beat the clock. I wont go in to a lot of detail on the specific things that you have to figure out; I'm not giving everyone out there a cheat sheet to beat my time.
But the atmosphere is definitely well set up and the puzzles are very intricate and well thought out - it actually made us feel so proud of ourselves and made us feel so clever that not only we completed it but we completed it with plenty of time to spare.
For those of you who are slightly terrified of the idea of being locked in a room and being claustrophobic, don't worry! In Exit Plan you weren't actually locked in as such, you were free to leave the room whenever you liked to use the toilet or if the experience got too much for you. It sounds like it might ruin the game for you being able to leave whenever, but the whole point of the game is solving the puzzles so it didn't really destroy the atmosphere.
If you ever get stuck and cannot quite figure things out then you also have the help of the man behind the screen. Clues flash up on the screen now and then if you're really struggling with the game to just push you in the right direction.
If you're looking for something new to do and aren't sure what to choose then checking out the Escape Rooms is definitely one thing that I would recommend you add to your bucket list.
