During this time of scary uncertainty and the ability the news has to send you in to a downward spiral, I wanted to think of all those things - however big or small - that I was grateful for. All my travelling, theatre trips and even moving this year have been cancelled or postponed, I'm not working and I'm quarantined in my house all day every day, for at least a month. One week down - who knows how many more to go!
So instead of thinking about all of that, here's what I'm grateful I've still got.
So instead of thinking about all of that, here's what I'm grateful I've still got.
- Brand new joggers and blanket - I went to Kmart right before the lock down, genuinely to get joggers and a fleecy soft blanket to sit around the house in. Priorities, eh?
- Being in isolation with my mum. I know a few people who are alone right now; couldn't imagine a better movie and wine buddy.
- Having a garden. The autumn may be creeping in on us, but I am so thankful I'm not stuck in a flat right now.
- Having access to the internet - Netflix and Disney Plus are absolute essentials in the coming weeks. Marvel Movie Marathon.
- Endless supply of tea. (My tea stash is pretty extensive).
- The chance to make proper meals most of the time. Still take the lazy options probably more than I should. Thinking of what to have 3 meals a day is getting exhausting people!
- Doing all the creative things I miss - read, write and editing videos without clock watching.
- Talking to my friends in Scotland more (time differences are a pain)
- The four new books I bought just before all of this started. And the fact I have a kindle and can buy and download books to read without having to leave the house.
- All. Of. The. Snacks. (Crisps and dip is always the clear winner in the snack department).
So there we go... ten of the things I'm still glad I have to get me through this isolation. Being in a lock down is definitely not something any of us thought would happen to us (unless you had plans to be under house arrest at some point in your life). The beginning of Ant Man and the Wasp keeps coming to mind, with Scott Lang under house arrest and just trying to stay entertained. It's a strange new world we're living in and even when all of this is over, I don't think we'll be going back to the world we once knew. Some things will take time and some things will probably change forever. But maybe it's time for the world to slow down and appreciate what they already have. Even if I would rather be drinking with my friends, on my holidays, day trips out of town, walking in the woods and dare I say it....even working!
There's a bit of a long stretch still ahead but we're getting there. One day at a time.
