TRIBECA - NEW YORK COMES TO EDINBURGH

Edinburgh's very own New York Style restaurant can be found in the heart of Bruntsfield just a five minute walk away from the Kings Theatre - a place called TriBeCa. This little restaurant is a cosy place with contrasting light stone walls and black furniture, the decor fitting of somewhere slightly different than our own fair city. I think that it is safe to say that the hustle and bustle of the restaurant speaks for itself as to its popularity; there always seems to be a constant stream of customers coming through the door.

When you first walk in to TriBeCa, you have to wait to be seated (there was no sign to say this so we almost just sat down at a reserved table as it had no sign on it either). Besides this slight unorganisation, the staff are all very friendly and showed us to a little booth table in the front corner as the two window tables were already reserved.
TriBeCa have two different menus - one for brunch which runs from 8am - 5pm and one for evening which runs from 5pm - 10pm.
I went for dinner so of course got the evening menu which can leave you stuck for dinner - but in a good way. There is so much to choose from, with burgers and hot dogs, chicken and waffles with chilli maple syrup, steaks and plenty of vegetarian options, you can definitely find something for everyone. And hey if you're still stuck then why not just choose the make your own option and create your own burger, deciding the bun, patty, toppings and sauce!

Personally I ordered the Clansman which was the Scot in New York. Made with salad, forest mushrooms, a seared chicken breast, haggis fritter and covered in whiskey cream all on a delicious bun. I have to admit though that this burger was so big there was no way that I was going to bite it all at once, so I took the safer route and took the haggis fritter off to eat separately. The food all comes on little wooden boards rather than plates which seems to be a trend of burger joints lately. I really enjoyed the burger and the sweet potato fries that I tried with it were cooked perfectly. In my personal preference I would have preferred more of a flavour on the sweet potato fries like rosemary, just to add that little extra kick.
If like me you do want more flavour then there is also the chance to try the poutine with either beef chilli or pulled pork on top. If you're not a big eater though I wouldn't recommend getting poutine with a burger unless its to share.

There is plenty of choice for drinks as well, with everything from soft drinks including red cream soda and ginger beer, ice tea and iced coffees (or the hot alternatives) milkshakes including the classics or extending further to oreo or even a boozy milkshake. The chocolate milk comes in a proper glass milk bottle which I love. There is something about the milk just coming as is to the table in a bottle which makes the setting all the more cute and perfect.

The best (and almost worst part for me) is at the end of your meal; when you ask for the bill you also get a plate of jelly beans to go with it (as if you weren't full enough already). Now this was bad for me purely because I didn't know what the flavours all were, so being foolish enough to think that red could possibly be strawberry, I ended up with a flavour that resembled the cinnamon fireballs you used to get as a child. Not the best flavour memory of my childhood I must admit.

But this restaurant is definitely one that I will be visiting again and would recommend to anyone looking for some delicious food in Edinburgh to try. I think that next time I will try their brunch menu, with waffles, delicious full breakfasts and eggs done seven different ways, it will be just as hard choosing something to eat next time too.
